It’s a new year, which means a new home and a new you. But what renovations will you make to your property? If you’re like most people, you’ll turn your focus to your kitchen and bathroom for remodeling ideas.

There are many trends to watch for, which can help give you ideas for your own renovations. There are quite a few we witnessed over recent seasons that will more than likely continue into the new year.

However, before you jump into any projects for your home improvements, you may want to read this guide. We’ll cover some of the trends you should pay attention to.

Let’s review.

Bathroom and Kitchen Remodeling Looks Promising

Kitchen remodel before after

Start with the work your home needs and the features you want to change. Use a written project scope and local estimates rather than an unnamed growth forecast to make remodeling decisions.

Compare written proposals for the actual kitchen or bathroom scope, selections and installation work. Ask each contractor to explain exclusions and changes rather than assuming market growth or competition guarantees a lower rate.

If you’re planning to do some kitchen and bathroom remodeling, then it’s a great time to do so!

What Kitchen and Bathroom Renovations Are Homeowners Making?

Future proofed bathroom

A lot of homeowners today are conscious about their futures. In other words, they want to future-proof their homes, so they can grow old without losing the ability to function in their property. For example, you’ll find people making upgrades to their bathrooms and kitchen to ensure functionality as they become weaker and possibly shorter due to being confined to a wheelchair.

Retirement-friendly homes aren’t anything new, especially in the baby boomer community. However, we do see more millennials entering the remodeling scene.

So many are opting for eco-friendly materials. For instance, green paint and finishes. It’s expected that there will be a big push towards bathroom remodeling for the younger homeowners as they create a home that incorporates wellness.

As for kitchen remodeling, we will more than likely see more installations for pantries. However, there may also be other additions, such as powder rooms, laundry rooms and family rooms.

Bathroom Remodeling Trends

Bathroom Remodel 20

Recent remodeling projects have focused heavily on the bathroom. The renovations made to restrooms varied greatly from installing wall-hung toilets to laying down new flooring.

In the US, we’re seeing more homeowners embracing bidet seats and different shaped toilets. But it doesn’t stop there, some are even going for non-traditional white for grays and sandy colors for sinks.

Then as for the bathtub, more people are choosing matte finishes for their solid surfaces. In the past, polished solid surfaces was the thing. And what’s even more surprising is that there’s a prediction for a shift away from large standalone showers towards large bathtubs.

Of course, this isn’t likely so for bathrooms that have small to medium square footage ranges. But for the larger master suites, we will likely see more people installing big tubs.

There are many things homeowners can do with a larger suite. For instance, implement a standalone shower, bench, as well as a bathtub.

The colors for bathrooms are set to include finishes like matte black, brushed brass and dark-stained cabinets.

Trends in the Kitchen Remodeling

Kitchen with French open doors

Now, it’s not just the kitchen counters and cabinets that’s getting attention. More homeowners are focusing in on kitchen appliances as well. This is especially so where smart technology comes into play.

For example, smart fridges, stoves, coffeemakers and thermostats. You can now control more of your kitchen using your smartphone or tablet. As for the fridges, you can have your pick of those that are smart, have built-in cameras or InstaView glass doors.

Tech is in as homeowners are given access to control temperatures and timers of appliances from wherever they are. Even dishwashers are getting attention, as they’re now smart and come equipped with steaming features and a third-tier rack.

Let’s not forget about the oven, which are now incorporating French doors.

The end of the day, homeowners are making changes to the kitchen that will help with energy efficiency and convenience. And there’s plenty of this on the market today.

But for the surface and storage trends, we will see a rise of rollouts, pullouts, cutlery drawers and spice rack organizers. Even cabinet lighting will become more popular.

Quartz continues to be a popular choice for kitchen countertops, as homeowners shy away from granite. But the latter is still in the mix, along with butcher block and marble countertops.
