Good to know
There are three main types: stock, semi-custom, and custom. Stock cabinets come in fixed sizes and finishes at the lowest cost; semi-custom add more sizes, door styles, and modifications; fully custom are built to your exact dimensions and specifications. We work with semi-custom and custom lines from Medallion, Forevermark, Waypoint, Fabuwood, Design-Craft, and Marsh.
Quality cabinets typically last 20–50 years. Solid-wood and plywood-box construction outlasts particleboard, and dovetailed drawer boxes with soft-close hardware hold up far longer than stapled joints. Proper installation and avoiding prolonged moisture are the biggest factors in longevity.
Refacing keeps the existing cabinet boxes and changes the visible surfaces. GBC does not offer cabinet refacing or refinishing. GBC offers cabinet replacement when boxes are damaged, you want to change the layout, or you need different sizes and storage. Ask about replacement of two or more cabinets or a full kitchen project.
Conversion-varnish and other catalyzed finishes are the most durable and moisture-resistant, followed by thermofoil and high-quality laminates. Painted finishes look premium but can show wear at high-touch edges over time; stained wood tends to hide everyday wear well.
